Making a Difference

True to its mission, PrimeSource made a positive difference in many patients lives on Valentine’s day this year. Donning festive red scrubs and armed with cards personalized by the home office, Field Associates spread warm wishes while providing care to nearly 1,000 residents. The home office hand-signed 5,150 Valentine's cards to give out to every resident in each of the 47 nursing homes PrimeSource visited that day.

While the field staff was spreading Valentine’s wishes, the home office was working toward meeting their goal for this year’s Presents for Residents campaign. The first Valentine’s bake sale was a sweet success with $89.30 raised. Added to the $56.50 carried over from last year, they are $145.80 closer to the goal of $2,000 for this year’s Presents campaign.

The team would like to thank everyone who so generously baked goodies as well as those who volunteered their breaks and lunches to help sell. Of course, big thanks to everyone who purchased baked goods to help support the cause.

Presents for Residents

This December, a campaign for Presents for Residents was launched to purchase Wii interactive gaming  systems for residents at the homes we serve. This year was the most successful campaign ever!

A whopping $1,338 was raised this year ($300 more than 2010)! This year’s Presents of Residents campaign kicked off with a raffle for a Holiday Basket with lots of goodies. Candy Cane Gram sales and casual days were also a part of the fundraising efforts. An enormous success though, was the two bake sales and the White Elephant Silent Auction, where Associates were able to bid on items donated by their peers. It was an amazing turn out and in the end, our goal was met and we were able to purchase over $1,000 worth of Wiis for our nursing facilities.

A record $1,338 was raised in this year’s campaign!

“I am thrilled that our company came together and broke a record fundraising for our residents. This kind of effort really speaks to the care and dedication that everyone at PrimeSource has in supporting our mission of making a positive difference in the lives of the patients we serve.” - Dave Fleming, President & CEO

Aware of the challenges many homes face in keeping residents minds and bodies active and stimulated, the Clinical Services Team raised funds to purchase Wii Gaming Systems to present to residents in facilities who could benefit from the wonderful possibilities these systems provide.

We are happy to have so many people actively involved in this fund raiser. Through all these efforts, the kindness and generosity of many, we were able to raise so much money. The Gaming Systems will be shipped next week after homes are chosen.

Sincere thanks go out to everyone who participated or donated in some way.

Tablet Transition

A quick conversation with Dr. Amy Bell, Podiatrist reveals why she is so pleased to be using PrimeSource TotalPractice.

After working with the TotalPractice system for about a month, I can say it’s a great product. It’s user friendly and the team can grasp it very quickly. The whole experience has been enjoyable. I have not had to worry about any of the challenges we’ve heard about with the very first roll-outs, as most of the issues we’ve heard about have been solved.

My first day with the tablet, we were a staff member short, and my CA had not been trained on the tablet yet. For the first four patients, we were a little slow, but we were up to speed very quickly and ended up seeing a full list of patients for the day. While I have not used the system long enough to take advantage of chart prepopulation, the tablet is still faster than paper. Charts are being completed in about 2 minutes on average and everything is so easy to find. By the third day, you know exactly where everything is. It becomes as routine as doing a physical exam.

I like to document everything – pictures, notes, etc. The software is ‘road-mapped” very well and it’s clean and easy to read and follow. There is more expression, accuracy and efficiency available compared to charting on paper. It’s much easier to chart completely on the tablet. Notes are more complete and easy to read in the facility. In the past, I’ve worked with dictation, bar code scanning, handwriting and forms. Dictation would never transcribe right, bar codes were a pain and forms were essentially a shortcut to documentation. Here, everything is in front of you. I’m very proud of this product and that we have it to use.

I had heard concerns that the narrative is “hard to read”. I’ve found that nursing home staff need to be shown what to expect, but the transition is very easy. MDS coordinators love it because the diagnosis codes are there. The formatting is very easy to navigate through for nursing and follow-up care. The final printed narrative is great. Because it’s so portable, even when we do room visits, I can just bring one tablet and sync and print exams when we return to the room. The homes have been very happy with the product – feedback has been excellent.

If you’re computer savvy at all, you can do this. Even if you’re not, everything is laid out in the way you would complete your exam – it’s automatic and it’s not difficult at all. The most difficult thing is that you don’t want to be trained at a home with pre-populated exams. You want to start with the basics so you’re forced to do it from scratch and check everything. It’s better to start with a blank canvas so you are forced to learn.

We have had some print and sync issues, but the IT team, Jeanne and Stan have been right on the issues and nothing has created a significant challenge. CA’s haven’t had any complaints except for the extra equipment – but even that has been a good transition. Overall, the tablet has not slowed me down one bit – if anything it’s made me more efficient. It’s far better than paper. I really feel fortunate that this level of technology is part of working with PrimeSource.
